This is my baby Gunner, he is a bright bay Standardbred gelding hailed from the track in New Zealand. He is always very curious when I'm out with my camera, so I always end up with a nose instead of a face!

DO NOT USE THIS PHOTO WITHOUT MY WRITTEN CONSENT!!!

Taken w/ Pentax K100D

i love bays with a star!

hey, is a standardbred off the track a trotter?

if so, are they comfortable to ride.....or what do you do with him??

:D

Yup he was a pacer off the track. They are basically just like any horse except that they don't like to canter or lope. They are trained, quite firmly, not ot do anything over an extended trot. On another standardbred that we had, I actually caught up to a horse that was loping in his extended trot! It's not really the most comfortable thing to sit, and it has a different rythm than, well, basically everything else that a horse does! He is just my trail horse, I really need to start working with him again because he is very stubborn when it comes to trotting, but I usually just ride him down the dirt road I live on. They make really great horses, and they usually have a great personality.

i have always ridden walk trot canter type horses........well and a few that are gaited and rack...........but never ridden trotters/pacers....

when he trots do you post or sit?

i love to trail ride myself, but like to have trails big enough to do at least some cantering :D

I sit when he trots when I'm bareback, and when undersaddle I try to sit for short distances. If he trots for longer than a few paces I stand up in the stirups.
